For many, this was an odd thing when they showed up ready to be a contender. As time has gone on and we’ve seen how innovative and fun the pieces Ressence makes are, it’s easy to see why they have become the symbols of individualism they are. From oil-filled watches to interesting setups, you’d never be bored with your Ressence nor would you run out of people who are curious enough to ask you about it. Today we remember one of the most prolific enterta Today we remember one of the most prolific entertainers of all time. A man who became his characters and embodied what it meant to take on a role and give it your all. And also, apparently, a watch guy. By far, my favorite character he played was Doc Holliday, as many others may agree. It is said that you never actually met Val Kilmer, you met who he was playing as he had a way to bring them to life like no other. This shot, from 2014 and credited to the Associated Press, shows Val with a Panerai watch that absolutely suits him. Well made, rugged, ready for anything, and yet with a classical elegance that once can appreciate only if one knows what it is they’re looking at. In much the same way, you have to see Kilmer in action to truly appreciate all he brought to us over the years. As he said in his original post, “Stuff breaks in space just like it does on Earth. And sometimes it makes more sense to repair than replace. This is one of the reasons why NASA promotes mechanical and electrical aptitude and awareness. Soldering is one of these skills.” #watchfam nerds will also notice the Rolex GMT Pepsi. He called it the STRYPER but I definitely think it should have a bumblebee moniker in there somewhere! G Shock watches serve a multitude of purposes for many different professions. As far as tool watches go, these have serious credibility in terms of the abuse they can take and the ease of replacement. Sometimes it’s easier to just grab a new one and with a G Shock, you definitely can without a lot of worry. One of the admins of this account has taken his G Shock across the world and back again. In rotation with other pieces, it still served just as faithfully as the higher end luxury stuff without missing a beat. You’d be hard pressed to go wrong with anything @casio_us offers, including their pianos! Anyway, we love seeing all sorts of pieces and sharing them with you. To say that the Nordic regions have a bit of a spe To say that the Nordic regions have a bit of a special relationship with Horology Republic is an understatement. This region, full of new brands, old brands, and creativity all its own, has been behind our endeavors to create a different kind of watch media from the beginning. Exclusive photos, hands-on reviews of new models, and a way to have an English-language outlet for many up-and-coming releases have all been ways this watchmaking region is a terrific partner in what we do. @straum is one such brand that creates a stunningly gorgeous piece with design language not often seen today. Instead of creating a variation on a theme, they’ve gone their own way. The Jan Mayen in article blue is a great example of this. Norwegian made with the Swiss reliability we all expect and trust. We can’t wait to see what else they come up with in the coming years, and a big thank you to our Member Doug for sharing yet another great piece from his collection.
